FENCES

Denzel Washington's Fences

FENCES – 24 KARAT GOLD RATING
I was impressed with Denzel Washington’s on-screen interpretation of August Wilson’s 1983 play Fences.  A story about a Philly garbage collector who was supposed to have a career in Major League Baseball but by the time the league would allow black players he was too old to play.  The performances were hands down out of site with this all-star cast, Denzel Washington as Troy Maxon, Viola Davis as Rosa Lee Maxon, Russell Hornsby as Lyons Maxon and newcomer Jovan Adepo as Cory Maxson.  Although the movie is a bit long at 2h 19m, the fluidity of the story along with believable performances makes it well worth the time investment.  As Denzel and Viola both have proven themselves in their bodies of work, the stand out star is Jovan Adepo who in my opinion did an excellent job holding his own on set with two heavyweights.  Fences was released in the USA on December 16, 2016.

I hope the youth that have watched this movie understands just how relevant skin color is and that it should not dictate where a person should belong in life. Free opportunity is relevant and ok should be exposed.
