Iggy & The Stooges Bring Danger
The original bad boy of grunge and rebellious underground, punk music, Iggy Pop puts those that are curious in grade A danger with this one. “Gimme Danger”, the gritty yet telling documentary from writer and director Jim Jarmusch touches my soul in all the right places. This film goes deep into the backstory of the “I JUST DONT GIVE A FUCK” attitude and behavior of Iggy Pop and his band The Stooges. Shit like this lends more to the idea that I was born in the wrong era, I should have been right in the thick of this.
I don’t exactly agree with the director’s opinion that The Stooges are “the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band ever” however I would say that they are one of the most groundbreaking. I can think of several other artists from that period to add to the conversation, for now, we will just stick to the script. There is no doubt that “Gimmie Danger” is informative and entertaining but if it were up to me, I would have added more of the danger associated with Iggy and The Stooges. More sex, more drugs, more broken glass and tension within the band. Even without the circus that comes with the lifestyle “Gimmie Danger” is still on point and a must see for any music driven fanatic.
Iggy Pop, now 69, is the original wild man and has no regrets. If you’re in the mood for an in-depth story, this is definitely worth the 1:48-minute running time. “Gimme Danger” was given a much deserved 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. After seeing the film, comment and let us know what you think.
