Oh' My Gosh
English producer and DJ Jamie xx shows off with his beautiful cinematic video “Gosh,” directed by French director Romain Gavras. Honestly, there is not much you can say but everything you can see. In 2016 the electronic beatsmith was nominated for a grammy following his album in Colour. In addition to his popularity as a solo artist, he is an active member of the London-based band The xx.
The cinematography in this “Gosh” video is so fun to look at you can watch it without sound and still enjoy it. Romain Gavras, best known for his controversial and award-winning work with UK artist M.I.A., shot it with no CGI or 3d effects. He makes it look easy to enlist a 400-person cast to storm the streets of Hangzhou, Zhejiang in China. Noted for its replica of the infamous Eiffel Tower, Hangzhou is the perfect backdrop for his flashy energetic vision. Cast members also had to endure a no-nonsense training regiment to pull off marching sequences filmed for the video. You can also see clips of moving vehicles and eye-catching landscapes coupled with innovative camera movement and crane shots. What I like about Romain’s style is that he manages to use gritty realistic settings to create visually appealing shots.
