Canada's golden child
This is my guy right here, Roy Woods. I first got my ears on Roy Woods when I stumbled upon his first album “Exis”. At 20 years old he understands how important it is to set yourself apart in this circus of delusional rappers, singers or singing rappers, whatever fits. Woods signed with OVO, rapper Drakes imprint back in 2014 and has been pumping them out ever since dropping 3 projects over a 2 year period. Woods put out “Exis” in July of 2015 then dropped “Waking At Dawn” in July 2016, then in less than 6 months on December 23rd he drops “Nocturnal”. In my opinion, Roy Woods may not be the world’s best singer but his production is so solid it sounds extremely well matched. I can appreciate the range Roy Woods has to offer with songs like the dark and moody “Go, Go, Go” or the perfect uptempo “How I Feel” to the erratic slow moving sound of “Sonic Boom”.
In 2016 Roy Woods headlined his own tour titled the “Unlocked Tour” and supported the Summer Sixteen tour headlining Drake & Future. Roy Woods is definitely one to watch, with only 2 active years in the game, he is already well on his way to a relevant body of work.
