The Shogun Of Harlem
The Last Dragon -If you came up in the late 80’s like me you have to remember Sho’nuff also know as “The Shogun Of Harlem” from the movie The Last Dragon. Played by Julius J. Carry III, Shonuff was one bad ass villain if you ask me, Leroy, played by Taimak Guarriello was the guy you felt sorry for, the underdog you wanted to win. Directed by Michael Schultz and produced by Berry Gordy, The last Dragon had everything, karate, breakdancing, family, love, and who could forget Eddie Arkadian’s fish tank. The Last Dragon is definitely an important piece of pop culture, more than that, Leroy’s love interest played by the Canadian beauty Vanity was every young boy’s fantasy at the time. Last but not least, of course, we had to get to the music, I was only 6 years old when The Last Dragon came out in 1985 but my ears were already tuned to that crafty theme music, “The Glow” by Willie Hutch. “Rhythm Of The Night” performed by El Debarge was the hit of the soundtrack, hitting number 3 on US Hot 100.
